Ramgarh Tiger Reserve – Hadoti’s 2nd Tiger Reserve after Mukundra

Ramgarh Tiger Reserve in Bundi District will be Rajasthan’s 4th Tiger Reserve.

The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) gave a green signal for the Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary to be given a Tiger reserve status

Prakash Javedkar, Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, made it official with his tweet :

Geography

Total area enclosed : 1052.12 sq.km

Located 45kms from Bundi city, near Ramgarh Village in Bundi district of Rajasthan

History

In 1982, Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary came into existence under Section 5 of the Rajasthan Wild Animals and Birds Protection Act, 1951. The sanctuary has an area of 252.79 square kilometers.

Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is more like a buffer area of Ranthambore National Park which is one of the biggest wildlife sanctuaries in the country.

In 2019, the Rajasthan Government sent a proposal for Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary to be upgraded to a tiger reserve.

Recently NTCA accepted this proposal.

Why another Tiger reserve

According to experts, this would solve the overcrowding of Tigers at the Ranthambore reserve, which houses 77 tigers.

Ramgarh Tiger Reserve would also enable the movement of tigers in this corridor and would connect Ranthambore-Ramgarh-Mukundra.

This would definitely boost tourism in the region.

Other Attractions at Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary

Wildlife : leopard, Indian wolf, striped hyena, golden jackal, sloth bear, chinkara, etc.

Flora : Dhok, Khair, Salar, Khiri trees, Mango & Ber trees

The best time to visit the sanctuary is November – March

The other Tiger Reserves in Rajasthan are: Ranthambore Tiger Reserve (RTC), Sariska Tiger Reserve (STR), Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (MHTR)
