What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence or machine intelligence is intelligence demonstrated by machines,in comparison to natural intelligence portrayed by humans.

The term ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is referred to machinery which respond to the environment and react as same as the human mind does, i.e. in the fields like learning,adapting,and problem solving.

A.I. is mostly challenged in operations like understanding and processing human speech, mastering the toughest levels in strategic game systems like chess and many others, independent driving cars, fast and intelligent routing in content delivery network and creating military simulations.

This field is growing dramatically with the proliferation of high powered computers into homes and businesses and especially with the growing power of smartphone and other mobile devices. Artificial intelligence software is assisting people in most every discipline.

Can Machines Think?

By 1950s, we had a generation of scientists, mathematicians, and philosophers with the concept of artificial intelligence. One such person was ALAN TURNING, a young British polymath who explored the possibility of artificial intelligence     


 The logical framework of his 1950 paper, Computer Machinery and Intelligence in which he discussed how to build intelligent machines and how to test their intelligence.

Today Artificial Intelligence is a very successful concept. But it wasn’t that successful in it’s early years. In 1955 when it was created as a branch of knowledge. While it’s development it experienced several series of optimism and a severe loss of money invested.

The Trends In AI indicates:

I. AI,especially Machine Learning, is playing a huge role in modernizing the cybersecurity industry, with many companies leveraging AI for improved cybersecurity solutions.

II. AI can be easier to deceive than the current computer. This may give adversaries new ways of gaining sensitive information.

These 2 points indicate to the both positive and negative aspects of AI respectively.

Languages Used

  1. AIML ( Artificial Intelligence Markup Language ) it is an XML (Extensible Markup Language).
  2. IPL was the first language developed for artificial intelligence.
  3. Lisp is a practical mathematical notation for computer programs based on lambda calculus.
  4. Python is widely used for artificial intelligence.

    V. C++ is a high level, general purpose programming language.It can be used to develop operating systems, browsers, games and so on.

  •  WABOT-1  (1970-1973)

It was created by GEORGE DEVOL.The WABOT-1 was the first funscale anthropomorphic robot developed in the world. It consisted of a limb-control system, vision system and a conversation system.


  The WABOT-1 was able to communicate with a person in Japanese and to measure distance and directions to the objects using external receptors. WABOT-1 has the mental faculty of a one-and-half year old child.

Sophia The Robot

SOPHIA is a social humanoid robot developed by Hong Kong-based company HANSON Robotics. Sophia was activated on February 14,2016.


In October 2017, Sophia became a Saudi Arabian citizen, the first robot to receive citizenship of any country. In November 2017, Sophia was named the United Nations Development Programme’s first ever innovation Champion, and is the first non-human to be given any UN title.

   In the Europe, the UK is the clear leader with approx. 121 AI-empowered firms. Tech companies in the UK raised private investment sum of $8.6 billion in 2017.The same year UK government announced funding of $78 million to support robotics and AI research projects.

4. Canada

  The government of Canada plays an important role in investing into AI projects. In March 2017 the Canadian government committed to make $125 million invested for AI research.

5. Russia

 According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the AI leader will rule the world.The country invests $12.5 million annually on AI.

# India is ranked no.10 in AI race. India is a fast-growing and developing nation, going through a lot of transformation in its digital space. AI has the potential to add US$ 957 billion or 15% of India’s current gross value in 2035.
